Low Sunday - Jesus Appears to His Disciples

"Now when it was late that same day, the first of the week, and the doors were shut, where the apostles were gathered together for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them: 'Peace be to you': (John 20, 19).

Prelude:

In spirit enter the Cenacle and behold the risen Saviour in the midst of the frightened disciples.

Affections:

O most amiable Redeemer, on the day of Thy glorious triumph, Thy loving Heart is mindful of the fearful disciples, who forsook Thee during Thy passion but in whose hearts Thou didst discern the most bitter sorrow for their infidelity. How divinely mild and loving that kiss of peace wherewith Thou didst console them, how bountiful Thy mercy and compassion wherewith Thou didst aid their weakness. O benign Lord, thus Thou dost act even today, toward souls who return to Thee, contrite and humble. Thou wilt then reveal Thyself to me, if filled with mistrust in self, I have recourse to Thee, the almighty, benign and merciful Saviour, with all the ailments of my soul. Strengthen my heart, as Thou didst strengthen the hearts of Thy disciples through the grace of the Holy Ghost. Teach me to be mild and indulgent toward others, in imitation of the example which Thou didst set me in this mystery.
